2. Macleay St Northern end, Darlinghurst Rd becomes Macleay as it bends around past the El Alamien Fountain and Fitzroy Gardens. Check out the cool cafes and restaurants down the chic end of The Cross. 3. Victoria St Runs parallel to Darlinghurst Rd on western side - Leafy, village-like contrast to the main strip - perfect atmosphere for 'backpacker alley' including Kanga House, cool coffee shops and restaurants like Roys, Soho nightclub bar lounge - many of which have spectacular views of the City. You can take a stroll down to the harbourside along Woolloomooloo and even a little further to the Opera House. 4. Bayswater Rd Southern end, runs east off Darlinghurst Rd - 'Nightclub alley' including Sugareef; great bars like Mansions and The World; and Bayswater Fitness Centre to keep up the stamina. 5. Kellett St Southern end, runs north off Bayswater - Leafy side street with some great restaurants like Keanu Reeves' favorite, the Iguana, and gentlemens' clubs like Maggie's and Scarlet's. 6. William St Southern end, runs west off Darlinghust Rd. / Coca Cola sign to the City - 20 minutes walk if you feel like some exercise. Stop at O'Malley's Irish pub for a refesher and great live bands. |
7. Kings Cross Rd Southern end, runs east off Darlinghust Rd (follows on from William). Drop in to Cafe Hernandez - the coffee specialists. 8. Roslyn St Runs east off middle of the Strip, top end. For the ultimate grilled chicken burger, ya gotta try Oporto's! 9. Llankelly Lane Runs north-west off 'Main Street' down to Orwell St. Everything from Funk House backpackers to Max's Tattoo and Happy Hockers. 10. Earl Place Runs north-east off Earl St. Discreet back entrances to adult shops, check out EP1 nightclub. 11. Springfield Ave Along from Earl Pl, usually accessed west from main strip thru the plaza (between Westpac Bank and Hungry Jacks). Conveniently located budget accommodation like Bernly, and the Kings Cross Travellers Clinic. 12. Ward Ave Runs north off Bayswater. Civic Video for the latest releases; and just behind the Fitzroy Gardens - Kings Cross Parking Station, Backpackers Car Market and the popular Pink House backpackers tucked away in leafy Barncleuth Sq. 13. Elizabeth Bay Rd Ward becomes Elizabeth Bay Rd as at the bend east, usually accessed thru the Park past the Police Station. Great cafes and restaurants like the Japanese Isarabi. A nice 10 minute walk down the historic Elizabeth Bay House and the harbour. |
14. Greenknowe Ave Runs east off Macleay and becomes Elizabeth Bay Rd at which point you come to Darlinghurst Theatre - plays nightly from 8:00pm. Business services, accountants and tax specialists, like Alexander Pitts and JE Morgan. 15. Orwell St Runs west off Macleay down to Victoria. Conveniently located backpackers like the Jolly Swagman. Check out the historic art deco buildings like the old Minerva Theatre where Peter Finch got his start and scenes for Mad Max were shot. 16. Hughes St Next north after Orwell. Quiet side street includes Nomads backpackers. 17. Manning St Next after Hughes. Check out historic Tusculum House. 18. Rockwall Cr Next after Manning. Authentic Japanese seafood at Ebisu and bar lounge at the Crescent. 19. Challis Ave Towards bottom of hill, but worth it for a coffee at Spring Expresso - the most popluar in the Cross. From here it's a short walk down to the harbour. |
