Thanks for the response. Took your advice and signed up for the club. Hopefully I followed the directions correctly and it will turn out to be a productive effort for all.
As for Ireland, my wife and I visited the Emerald Isle this past Sept/Oct. Had an absolutely wonderful time and accumulated a lifetime of fond memories. Flew into Shannon and traveled to Limerick, where we found an old castle in which reference was made to an O'Hogan participation in a battle there in approx. 1342. If interested, I'll review my travel folders and provide you some additional information at a later date.
After seeing the Cliffs of Moher, the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry went to a Hogan Ancestral Castle in Ardcrony. Information on this Hogan Ancestral was provided me by a Hogan from Hawaii. I don't have any documentation attesting to it having been in the Hogan family, other than word of mouth, but that's a project for a return trip. Then on to Ballincollig to see the home when my grandfather was born (1870). Also spent time reviewing records in Dublin, but again, one could spend weeks there researching files so that also will be put off for a return trip.
Will review the particulars of some old family files and would gladly share this info if you would be so kind as to do the same.
As for my immediate records, my paternal grandfather (David Hogan) and maternal grandmother (Margaret O'Keeffe) came to the US early 1900's, settled in Greenwich Connecticut and married 1910. I've identified the vast majority of our family, finding most still live in the Connecticut area. Can always provide specifics if interested.
Regards,
Joseph

Dear Peter:

Found your email in searching the web and would like to inquire as to how one should proceed in searching the Hogan's.
My maternal grandfather (David M.Hogan) was born in Ballincollig (circa 1870) and immigrated to the US approx. 1910 after which me married a Margaret O'keeffe also from County Cork.
Have visited my grandfathers birthplace in Ballincollig, County Cork and have also toured the grounds of the Hogan ancestral home in Ardcrony.
During a trip to Ireland this past fall I tried, unsuccessfully, to gain any additional information at the National Library in Dublin and was wondering if you could provide some direction as to how to best proceed.
Any information would be most appreciated.
Regards,
joseph.zygmont@unilever.com

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the come-back. The Hogan side of the family is sketchy...1840's, John Hogan came to US from Ireland, Tiperary area. Don't know if he had any brother's or not. He was a boxer. He allegedly killed a man in a fight in a bar and fled to Southern Illinois area, where he married Bertha Swinford...there were rour Hogan's from John - Helen, Charles, Ed and Helen - all deceased - Ed being the last on 16 Dec 99 - I spoke of that and John earlier.

I saw your web site - great. I am going to try to get both sides involved and learn more about my family...keep in touch and give my any advice you can think of.
Thanks again, Peter
:-) Chuck
