| 26 July, 1956, President Gamal Abdul Nasser declared the nationalization of the Suez Canal. In commemoration "26 July Street" is now a major street in both Cairo and Alexandria in Egypt. It's interesting synchronicity that Pete is born on this important day in Egypt's national history. Pete grew up to unearth Civilization Time about the legitimate year counting system and the plagiarizing and displacing of Egypt's time pioneers. |

"Us vs. Them".
Peter Hogan, Sydney, Australia, Oeuvre, Magnum Opus.
Why religion is bunk and pigs fly If you are going to get into a conversation about some of the points religious people take to be concrete facts, especially fanatical / fundamentalist ones from both sides of the Us vs Them spectrum ...then the same conversation must accept serious conversation about the suggestion that it is a concrete fact that some pigs fly. And if it is just a matter of belief, believing in something, and somebody recorded that it happened (but original documents are lost, now only copies of copies - the paper trail is lost) then everything is possible - all propositions are on the table and must be accepted as possible - not just that pigs fly, but all opposite propositions, including that there is no god - it's all mythology, all made up. And a great precentage of material is plagiarized - a very natural and omnipresent trait (or vice) in all humans throughout the ages... Some may admit that there are add-ons, that are doubtful / apocryphal - ascensions into heaven (as Joseph Campbell noted if the christian figurehead really rose from the dead and then was later seen ascending up into the sky on the way to heaven - if he was ascending at the speed of light he would still be in our galaxy, one of billions!)... there is a god, just happens to look like an elderly wise male of our group, reincarnations... miracles... And if some of it is conceded as innocent embroidery - you start stripping it off - where do you stop - will anything be left, of beliefs that go back to times when, the sun revolved around the earth - obviously because anyone can look up and see it circling us in the sky, and when scary things like lightning, thunder and meterors would naturally be thought to be manifestations of their god... Isn't it ironic that all religions go into such detail in their main doctrines, but just happen to leave out 99.999999'% of time and the universe - no mention of dinosaurs, no mention of billions galaxies with billions of stars, our Sun being very ordinary one, in a tiny part of the Milky Way... A lifetime of delusion starts from when we are very young. First we notice the Sun in the sky seemingly rising in the east horizon, moving across the sky, and setting in the west. But it's not the Sun moving, we are. The Earth is rotating past the Sun. Then if at night we think the Moon has its own light. But it doesn't. The Moon is reflecting light from the Sun. We might notice the bright morning star to the east and the evening star to the west - so bright some even report it as a UFO. They're not stars. It's the Sun the planet Venus reflecting light from the Sun. The delusion is worse in big cities with light pollution - don't notice night sky and the stars, usually inside - lots of artificial lighting. Most education systems traditionally place very little emphasis on the Universe. Probably because the shear vastness of the reality, doesn't fit with their respective religions that have their roots in a tiny slice of time - culminating around 2,000 years ago, in a tiny part of a planet. Their main books or bits and pieces, stories and tales coopted from all over the place, then edited together occurs before telescopes - before archaelogists - before geologist could measure the age layers of rock sediments, before anthropologists, etc. But you can understand how people without knowledge of the vastness of the Universe were sure that the Earth was flat and that their plot of land was the centre of the everything. We have education curriculums that are happy to teach years of subjects like poetry, Shakespeare drama, etc, but not about the Universe. It seems so incongruous - the Establishment makes sure the school program includes subject that will probably be quickly forgotten, prove to be pretty much totally useless for the remainder of our tours - but no interest in teaching us about a subject intrinsic to our existence - where we live - how we fit in - how insignificant we are - a subject that would help to get us more grounded in reality, and stave off schizophrenia. The masses are pre-occupied with basic survival, and distracted by the proverbial opium of the masses - religion, that keeps them stupid and easier to control by the Establishment. 'The rich get richer and the poor get ...children' game. One wonders in an increasingly competitive world between regions and countries - who will have the advantage - those with more schizos, with narrow, blinkered vision; or the group with more open, creative exercised brains? Learning about the vastness of the Universe, cosmology, astronomy, stars, planets, and galaxies, is considered to be a mere hobby - 'stargazing'. Not helping are these elite professors having fun with powerful telescopes, they do nothing to pressure the government to change the education system. At best they allow tours and pretty much keep their esoteric profession a mystery from the general public. You could be looking at a star like Antares, and think it's just another star but it's diameter is bigger than from Earth to the Sun. It was ony 80 odd years ago that Edwin Hubble got some of us to realize that Andromeda is another galaxy and far, far away. Who's going to teach our children how to comprehend such awesome amounts of time and space. Some right-wing Establishment sychophants try to dismiss the notion of evolution, not just biological, but also everything else in the Universe, with "intelligent design". But if everything including the Sun and the Earth was created at the same time why doesn't the Earth orbit the Sun in exactly 365 days instead of fractions like 365.242199 depending on mean, sidereal or tropical measurements, not to mention slowing and precession because the Earth wobbles on its tilted axis due to its pear shape. and the same thing happens with the Moons orbit. For centuries the hierarchy of religions, that maintain calendars and annual festivals, have been tearing their hair out with the problem of their being, on the contrary, no intelligent design in these orbits! Our Universe starts with Big Bang - time and space began - it could have come from wormhole. Probably lost connection to that universe. Unlikely to ever know, what, if anything, was going on before, what that universe was like, a universe which probably had a totally different laws of physics. And that wormhole could have been triggered by some little toddler (not even some god-like being) who dropped her, toy causing some kind of butterfly effect and the amusing goings on since... The hitch in the dogma starts right at the beginning of "the great book of collected plagiarisms -- called "the book" (in the Indo-European Germanic English language) e,g. refer Sumerian tale of Gilamesh 2,000 (using the numerals and counting system developed by the Hindus / Indians) years before Hebrews got held up in Babylon and changed the name to Noah, etc. (everyone can say their story is older, passed down orally, but who has the oldest written records / clay tablets to be able to claim the ultimate copyright and sue the later plagiarists) -- with god makes "man" in "his" own image (for one group, that's white male, looking, 65 years old, beard, fashion - certainly not a suit and tie or shorts, obviously a robe of 2,000 years ago plus garb, females are an aberration) just happens to look human even though sapiens only evolved 15 billion years after god created the universe and the human form is a fluke of various mutations, and every species becomes extinct after a few million years in the sun - how long before there is a mutation of a bug / disease that wipes us out - no matter how much money big pharmaceutical companies spend on research. So having been created in his image, i.e. perfect - how do we put some drama in the story - introduce the female and as Joseph Campbell used to say, blame it all on poor old snake. Fuel All these religions, it's usually the rich tiny minority of the population that pull the strings, using the same motif - don't attack the rich, they'll get retribution in the after-life, the poor will have paradise - too bad if there turns out to be no after-life. The evangelist always rave about what god thinks - they seem to have some direct knowledge - why don't they throw in the "physics" for how the after-life would work, biologically, logistically, technically... In the hear and now, everything needs fuel to operate, otherwise brain cells / neurons die - and when they die the host carrying around that brain has no idea who or what they were. So once the neurons and synapse connections have decomposed (sometimes prematurely with diseases like Alzheimers) how is that after-life system going to reconstitute that particular neural configuration for "Muhammed Brown"... Brain cell death - eyes - organs - are organic - when they tour has ended they end up mush - decompose - atoms rearrange - weight of the earth essentially remains the same, just a change to the configuration of the atoms, individual animals, rocks, plants, etc. How could there be an after-life if you can't function, don't know who you are - just observe someone with Alzheimer's disease or amnesia, can't sense anything - if you believe in an after-life, what's the physics for that, how could your 'soul' operate when it can't see and doesn't know who it is... The Best Seller Isn't amazing how with most religions their god figurehead only talks to one group of people on planet earth, at one particular time, usually no more than a span of a couple of hundred years. And that group then compiles "The Book". Succeeding generations, over thousands of years, don't warrant the same kind of favouritism - discrimination really. 99% of the tools used by religious fundamentalists have their origins outside the in-group - langauge, technology, numbering system, the zero, binary computer system... |
